Embracing Diversity in the Security Sector

What Does Diversity Really Mean in the Security Industry?


We passionately believe that diversity needs to be embraced across the security industry. This means welcoming people of all ethnicities, genders and backgrounds – it’s important to us that everyone feels valued and knows their voice will be heard. After all, everyone’s opinion is valid and by listening, we can add value to our organisation.

So what does diversity really mean? In the security industry, it means equal opportunities for everyone, not just those who have most typically worked in roles such as security guarding and patrolling. It also means ensuring that everyone is welcomed into the workplace – the culture of a security company needs to be inclusive as well, so that diversity doesn’t become just another buzzword. At Woodwill, we value every single person we work with and will go above and beyond to ensure everyone is welcomed and included.


ISSIG: Leading the Way Towards a More Inclusive Security Sector


We are members of the Security Institute, which is pioneering change through its Inclusive Security Special Interest Group (ISSIG). This initiative works to understand and explore how engaging with all groups of society can lead to sectoral innovation, and how an inclusive security sector could influence advanced practices in the broader field.

We feel that this kind of backing and research is much needed in our sector and we are completely behind the initiative – there’s so much we can learn from one another, and the security industry can only benefit from attracting skilled, passionate people. We all have something unique to offer and it’s time for the security sector to truly embrace the value of diversity.
